Preparing Your Family for your Lifestyle Newborn Session

Like I said above getting everyones outfits together early is a huge life saver! Let’s get into more life saving tips for your lifestyle newborn session.

On the days leading up to your due date have a family meeting to decide what the family reward for after your session will be. This can be as simple as movie night, ice cream sundays, or game night! Then during your session you can remind your kids of the reward waiting for them after the session. Get more ideas from my Pinterest board!

The morning of the session, don’t change your kids until right before the session. You don’t want to change everyone to early and run the risk of getting their outfits dirty. You can get everyones hair ready and outfits set out on beds. This way all you have to do is change outfits.

Getting Baby Ready

No one wants pictures of a fussy baby. Not to mention this will create a stressful experience. I want to give you my top three tricks to ensure baby is sleepy and happy for your session.

Stay Awake

Keep your little one awake for an hour before the start of the lifestyle session. Then when I arrive to swaddle them they will drift right off to sleep.

Wrap in a Loose Blanket

This is a great trick. Most babies don’t like to have their clothes taken off and their bodies exposed to the cold air. This is why you should have baby in nothing but a dipper and wrapped in a loose blanket. This way they won’t be as warmed and snuggled up. I recommend doing this about an hour before I arrive. This will ensure baby can be unwrapped and then swaddle quickly.

Binky Available

Even if your baby isn’t taking a binki having one available for your session is key. If the baby starts to wake up or get fussy a binki is typically the key to getting baby to settle quickly.

Ask for Help

Don’t be afraid to invite a friend or family member to come to your home the morning and or night before newborn session. If you have lots of kids an extra hand is so helpful. You can focus on you and know your kids are taken care of!
